Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) LTS Review

As we all know by now im a Linux user so i couldent wait to try out the newly released Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I was able to get my hands on a CD .ISO... okay well heres my thoughts on the new Ubuntu. Okay it has had some major improvements like an improved compiz etc. well heres the good points of 8.04

*GTK 2.X theme engines: yes the new Gnome 2.22 has the Murrine engine thats really popular on http://gnome-look.org and of course includes Clearlooks and the defaul engines.

*Firefox 3 Beta 5: Yes Firefox 3 Beta 5 has sooo many features i absolutely love like the add-ons and the smart bookmarks which neatly organize your bookmarked sites... and the Adress Bar now has a star on the side to bookmark the page your on which is really usefull... and the drop-down bar when you type in a keyword to a site you have recently visited..... and finally the seucrity and bug fixes by far firefox 3 beta 5 has had less crashes than 2 and is very secure.

*Compiz-Fusion: The updated compiz-fusion has more plug-ins and more effects than ever and most of them are actually useful like the plug-in that shows the mouse location.. very useful for screen captures.

*Updated Software: the new ubuntu adds much more software to its already HUGE collections of software it has via synaptic.. a couple i liked were the addition of AWN (Avant-Window-Navigator) which is a dock and screenlets which are desktop widgets both peices of software are very popular... and of course the updated classic software like pidgin and thunderbird

*New Wallpaper: Okay this is just a little thing i liked about 8.04 was the really cool heron wallpaper which blends perfectly into the desktop

Well i have covered the good points now for the down points

*Pulseaudio: Yeah this confuses me a little see my system (i386) doesnt need pulseaudio but what annoyed me is that it wouldent allow you to use a media player (ex. Banshee) and watch flash in a browser at the same time... but for people who want both and need pulseaudio you need libflashsupport which makes your browser VERY VERY unstable... i ended up just disabling it

*Flash: As usual the flash player from ubtunu sucks.. but dont fear the adobe tar.gz package works like a charm

*Banshee: aparently the new Banshee Audio player in ubuntu crashes more than the one in 7.10 which is a minor problem but annoying still

*Default Theme: yes the default theme for ubutnu has been recycled and im annoyed i think ubutnu needs a new face.. something a little more original.. oh and the orange is just ugly

Well there is my review of ubutnu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) LTS
